Ormen Lange - Phase 2

Gas already flows through the Nyhamna land plant. But the development of Ormen Lange is far from finished.

Development continues

Ormen Lange is one of Norway’s most complex field developments. Further development involves large sub-projects which demand new technology and innovation.

No other Norwegian field produces on such deep water, under such harsh conditions and with such advanced equipment. All installations are placed on the seabed, and the gas is transported to Nyhamna where it is processed. From there, the gas is exported through the world’s longest subsea pipeline to Easington, UK. Ormen Lange is Norway’s second largest gas field on 850 to 1 100 meters sea depth. The world’s biggest gas wells produces gas which correspond to up to 20 percent of Great Britain’s gas consumption.

When Ormen Lange started producing gas in 2007, almost half of the investments where still to come. Shell, as operator, will the coming 8-10 years deliver several large projects for Ormen Lange. More wells, subsea installations and a future solution for compression are amongst the demanding tasks Ormen Lange has to offer.
